Fullarton Medical Practice

Thinking about training with us?

We are an established training practice located in Ayr town centre with a list size of approximately 8000 patients. We provide care to both urban and semi-rural areas. Alan White and Stephen Dunne are responsible for training in the practice with Lindsey Walker currently completing the process to become an accredited trainer. All GPs in the practice are familiar with the GP training programme and we are all responsible for supporting trainees in practice, providing clinical supervision and facilitating educational activities twice per week.

The practice has gained hugely from being a training practice and we all enjoy the stimulation and rewarding experience from providing GP training. Occasionally GP trainees need to video consultations to provide an opportunity for analysis and development of consultation techniques, we are extremely grateful to our understanding patients who provide consent for these sessions.

Linsey Walker was our GP Retainer and Stephen Dunne, Gemma Freestone and Naomi Brown were all former GP Registrars with the practice.

Here is what Naomi Brown has to say about her experience (March 2018)

INFORMATION FOR GP TRAINEES
The Fullarton Practice has been recognised as a training practice since 2003 and has a record of providing high quality, positive training experiences to GP trainees. We have 2 GP trainers – Dr White and Dr Dunne, with other partners currently undertaking trainer’s training. As a GP trainee, you can expect a warm welcome from all of our staff team, tutorials with experienced members of staff and a supportive learning environment that encourages you to develop the wide variety of skills required as a GP. As testament to the positive experiences of our GP trainees, we have *3 former trainees currently working as GPs at the practice. As part of the Ayrshire and Arran training programme, you will receive structured day-release teaching fortnightly and will attend 2 residential events during your ST3 year with other ST3s and their trainers. These events give you valuable mock-CSA practice, exploration of curriculum topics that can be difficult to cover and the chance to socialise with local GPs.
‘As a former trainee myself, I highly recommend the Fullarton Practice to trainees. There is a good mix of patients from various demographics which lends itself to a broad training experience.  Staff are invested in your learning and support you in your areas of interest. Based in South Ayrshire, you can expect some very pleasant drives on your visit days.’  Dr Naomi Brown
